About four years ago, I picked up a CD featuring a couple of Allen's stand-up "concerts" from the 1960s. I've never been a big fan of Allen's movies - I did like "Manhattan" quite a bit - so I don't know what possessed me to buy his stand-up CD. Oh, but I'm glad I did. If Woody Allen never made a single movie in his life, he should be remembered as a comedian whose humor was every bit as prescient and funny as the other comedic titans of the late-60s/early-70s, i.e., Klein, Cosby, Carlin, etc.
In a scene in Manhattan, one of my all-time favorite movies, there is a scene with the following lines: Guy: "You think you're God!" Woody: "I gotta model myself after somebody!"
One of the funniest but underrated of Allen's movies is "Zelig." It was shot as a mock documentary in which Allen plays the first human chameleon. It's worth checking out if you get a chance.
