The Tennessee Titans halted their three game losing streak by beating the Houston Texans last week. Any win is a good win, and they improved their record to 7-5 to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Fortunately, they have another home game this week as the AFC Western Division leading San Diego Chargers come to Nashville. The Chargers have struggled at times this year, but are coming off impressive wins against the Chiefs and Ravens. They are also 7-5.
The game boils down to one factor: stop LaDanian Tomlinson. Tomlinson is a game breaker and gets my vote for being the best all around running back in the league. The Titans run defense must step up.
With five losses, the Titans margin for error for making the playoffs is as thin as the hair on my scalp. They simply can't afford a loss at home.
Perhaps the biggest intangible in the Titans favor is that San Diego head coach Norv Turner is one of the least impressive head coaches in the league. Anybody who remembers how he handled ex-Tennessee Volunteer Heath Shuler when he coached the Redskins can attest to that.
A lot is at stake in this game.

Well, I like the Chargers but the Titans are my home team. Yet the Colts are my favorite team. I'm not sure how the Colts fare depending on the outcome. But I did read that the Chargers - along with the Colts held most if not all of the leading stats in all categories in the AFC in 2006, in offense anyway. So, unless Tennessee's defense can step up it could be a longer day than expected. I agree at least that the score should be close. I think SD gets the edge for the running game and I think SD defense a notch above TN's. If TN defense takes it up a notch and Young and the receivers have a good day, TN could get the win, otherwise it's anybody's game and I think it will be a good 'un.

Alas, I have slumped some lately. Still got plenty of time to rebound.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Titans have only defeated one team this year (Jacksonville) that currently has a winning record.
The Titans could very well squeak into the playoffs (I won't bet money on that happening); however, if'n they do, they'll get their collective asses handed to 'em by Pittsburgh, Indy, or New England.
The Titans have been very, very lucky this year. Since I'm not in possession of a pair of Titans Rose-Colored Glasses, I'm prepared to say: This ain't Tennessee's year. Wait 'til next year, folks.

Personally, I thought Arkansas running back Darren McFadden should have won it. He rushed for more than 1,700 yards in the toughest college football conference in the nation. Plus, he didn't have a good quarterback on his team to help take the pressure off him. Every week he faced defenses stacked to stop him.
Nothing against Tebow because he had a great year. I just thought McFadden was better.
San Diego 23 Tennessee 17 (OT). Simply a crippling loss. A playoff caliber team does not blow a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter on its home field. Barring a total collapse, the Browns will likely get the last wild card playoff berth. The Titans will be kicking themselves for a long time over this one.
Early on I thought our defense had stepped up, but it looked like they just couldn't go the distance and fell apart in the fourth quarter.
I renew my call on the NFL to do away with the 'sudden death' overtime. I'd rather see it more like a basketball overtime, play another [some amount of time] and then it's over. I detest games won in a one-play system, even if my team is on the winning side.
RE: Tebow, I'm kinda glad he got it. Given his personal life and practice I was pulling for him. Still, I believe he won it due in part to a sort of hysteria on his behalf. But I sure do like watching him play.
