I cannot get away from 'Apollo 13' these days

Have you ever gone through a stretch where every time you turn on the television, you keep running into the same movie? I have been going through that with Apollo 13 lately. That is not a bad thing. It is an excellent film that stars Tom Hanks and a strong supporting cast. It is about the ill-fated voyage of Apollo 13 in 1970 that started for the moon but had to abort because of technical problems.

If you get a chance to watch it, I encourage you to do so. For more information about the film, click here.

Still, I cannot seem to get away from it these days. I went through the same thing with The Shawshank Redemption a couple of years ago.

I guess there are worse things to endure.

Great film. Way back in the day a friend had acquired a laser disk player and this was the first movie I saw on it. Coincidentally perhaps the first dvd I bought was another Tom Hanks film, "Cast Away", which to this day is one of my favorite movies.

'Cast Away' is a great one. I liked it so much that I saw it twice in the theater when it first came out.

Hate to say it ... but when I think about Tom Hanks' oeuvre, "Bachelor Party" is his high-water mark. (He was about ten years too old to be a "true" Army lieutenant in "Saving Private Ryan" ... read: S. Ambrose's D-Day writings.
