2014 is a third complete...if you don't believe me, do the math

If it is May 1, it must mean that 2014 is one-third finished.  The math is quite simple.  We have twelve months and the fourth one just ended.  4/12 = 1/3.  I've had math on my mind a lot lately, but that is another story for another time.

The first third of the year has been eventful and flown by.  This isn't an original thought, but time does move faster as we get older.  It seems like the other day we were freezing our rear ends off in the below zero chill of January, and now, spring is in full bloom with all the spectacular colors it produces.

If we all agree time is moving fast, then we need to be about making the most of our time. This is because we aren't getting any more of it.  So, let's get things together and get the most out of the rest of the year.

As for me, I'm about to go eat chicken.  I've got a coupon from KFC.

Popeye's cooks up some good fast-food chicken

Each day when I drive to and from work, I pass a Popeye's chicken restaurant along Interstate 24 in Nashville. For some time now, I have heard their chicken calling me. However, I never stop because I am in a hurry.

That was until a couple of days ago, and I do not regret it. Popeye's cooks up some first-class, fast-food chicken. I was not sure what to get, so I played it safe and got a three-piece chicken finger snack. For only four dollars (not including drink), I got enough chicken to keep me well fed for the rest of the day.

I know Kentucky Fried Chicken has the highest name recognition when it comes to fast-food chicken, but give Popeye's a chance. Lots of quality chicken at a reasonable price.

A man can't beat that.

The verdict on KFC's new grilled chicken: it's pretty good

Oprah Winfrey gave KFC tons of publicity regarding its new grilled chicken. In Nashville, colleagues of mine told me of the long lines at restaurants as people went there to use their free chicken coupon.

Because of this, I purposely stayed away from KFC until today. I tried the new chicken, and I liked it. It was a lot more tender than I was expecting, which is critical for grilled chicken. It retained its juiciness and had a nice flavor.

Obviously, this is fast food chicken we are talking about, and it will never be as good as grandma's. However, if you are in a hurry and have a taste for chicken, this is a pretty good option to consider.

Why does Kentucky Fried Chicken use the song 'Sweet Home Alabama' in most of its radio and television commercials?

After all, it is Kentucky Fried Chicken. What's the connection with Alabama?

I don't get it.

Just another example of 'the man' keeping me down.
